Mount Washington Biosolids Management
The Mount Washington Alpine Resort (Resort) near Courtenay on Vancouver Island treats all wastewater from resort facilities and onsite private cabins, producing approximately 200-300 cubic metres of Class B liquid biosolids annually. For a number of years these biosolids were managed on-site in a land application project, but for several reasons it became necessary to move this program off-mountain.
SYLVIS manages Resort biosolids in a marginal land improvement project at one of our operational sites located north of Courtenay, where biosolids are being used to convert Scotch broom-infested fields to productive hayfields. SYLVIS obtained regulatory authorization, coordinated transport of Resort biosolids via tanker truck, and supervised land applications to ensure safety, environmental integrity, and adherence to the site’s biosolids Land Application Plan.
The beneficial use of Resort biosolids demonstrates SYLVIS’ ability to provide services and value to biosolids generators both large and small.
