Sarah Carlson
Project Coordinator, New Westminster

We are pleased to introduce you to Sarah Carlson, BSc., AAg.

Sarah completed her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Simon Fraser University in April 2018 and began her career with SYLVIS in August 2018.

Sarah’s work as an Environmental Technician primarily sees her in the field supporting SYLVIS’s landfill leachate treatment programs at the Ecowaste Landfill in Richmond, BC. Her duties include new project installation and maintenance, soil, water and flora sampling, irrigation maintenance as well as vegetation and invasive species management.

Beyond her work at the Ecowaste Landfill, Sarah has also worked on projects involving the use of pulp and paper residuals as a barrier layer for landfills and mining waste. Her contributions range from conducting fabricated soil test mixes in the lab to contributing to final reports. Sarah’s previous training and experience in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software has allowed her to assist on several projects at SYLVIS by creating custom maps for reports.

Through her co-op program at Simon Fraser University, Sarah has worked with public, private, and non-profit organizations in the areas of water resource management, climate change research, watershed restoration and wildlife conservation. She holds deeply her values of sustainability, stewardship, and scientific integrity and continues to volunteer with local stewardship organizations in her free time.
