Jordan Chia
Environmental Technician, New Westminster

We are pleased to introduce you to Jordan Chia, BSc.

Jordan began working at SYLVIS in 2019, and earlier that year graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, concentrating in Environmetrics, and subsequently completing a Minor in Chemistry.

Jordan brings a diverse range of experience from the coursework, internships, work-studies, and co-ops he completed during his bachelor degree. His belief is that effective and encompassing sustainable management must be balanced and take into consideration how various sectors realistically interact, and science and business relations must have a strong degree of mutualism in order to be successful. Jordan’s previous experience includes working as a Lab Analyst specializing on analysing inorganic properties in soils and water, range management for the Ministry of Forests, and environmental based marketing for biodegradable materials.

Jordan’s work as an Environmental Technician focuses on hands-on involvement with SYLVIS’s operational projects. He supports the Lehigh Sechelt Mine Reclamation Program through monitoring surface and groundwater quality and conducting vegetation management. Jordan assists in report writing, data management, and lab trials for SYLVIS’s projects in British Columbia. Jordan’s resolution for 2020 is to learn how to create maps in GIS which he is enthralled about!

Aside from work, Jordan is an avid skateboarder and a cyclist and often spends his weekends searching for new spots or rides. He cooks a mean potato salad, loves going to shows, and is always down for sushi!
