Neither wind nor rain could stop the SYLVIS team from doing their part to protect our aquatic environment!
On Saturday, September 28, the dedicated SYLVIS team braved the elements to participate in the 20th annual Great Shoreline Cleanup. Our cleanup site was carefully selected for its location in proximity to the Richmond Landfill operated by Ecowaste. In 2006, Ecowaste approached SYLVIS to assist them in reducing the overall volume and improving the quality of their landfill leachate. Since then, SYLVIS has worked closely with Ecowaste to treat their leachate through the development and maintenance of a soil-plant treatment system and have designed and are currently constructing a wetland pilot project.
Our participation in the Great Shoreline Cleanup recognizes our commitment to protecting our natural resources, our understanding of the value of water and our commitment to the ideals that initiated the Ecowaste project.
