Applied Research

SYLVIS was founded in 1989 to research and develop management options for over 300,000 bulk tonnes of stockpiled biosolids. The research SYLVIS conducted led to the development and promulgation of regulations and best management practices for residuals management. That spirit of innovation, passion and a desire for knowledge present at SYLVIS’s inception continues.

Our research projects are conducted in conjunction with operational residuals management, or as standalone investigations. Our research projects advance stakeholder knowledge in residuals management and facilitate innovative residuals use.  These research projects seek to further expand the possibilities for using residuals to ameliorate environmental challenges and broaden end use options for our clients.  The results promote management diversity, flexibility, creativity and contingency.

Our applied research is focused within five areas:

  • Climate Change Mitigation
  • Innovative Management Options
  • Nutrient Management
  • Maximizing Value
  • Management Logistics

SYLVIS is a leader in applied residuals management research. We are committed to expanding our knowledge to facilitate the highest and best use of residuals for our clients.
