Katie Howett
Project Coordinator, New Westminster

We are pleased to introduce you to Katie Howett, BSc., PAg.

Katie is a Project Coordinator who has been with SYLVIS since 2012. Before joining SYLVIS, Katie received her B.Sc. in Geography from  the University of Victoria. Her previous work experience with the City of Surrey has led her to take the lead with invasive species management at SYLVIS.

Katie is a critical member of the SYLVIS team that maintains and manages a landfill leachate treatment system and biomass plantation at the Ecowaste Landfill near Richmond, BC. At this site, her primary responsibilities include management of the leachate irrigation system, vegetation management and ongoing environmental monitoring. She is a certified herbicide applicator and uses that to help manage the invasive species on site.

She supports several SYLVIS operational projects by conducting environmental monitoring and sampling of biosolids, water, soil and vegetation sampling at these sites. Her past experience with invasive species has allowed her to actively combat this problem at various sites. Katie has attended various client open houses on behalf of SYLVIS.

When she is not in the field, Katie is working as part of the Green Team (SYLVIS’s internal sustainability initiative), compiling data, writing reports and using her ArcGIS experience to create professional maps for SYLVIS’s clients.

In her spare time, Katie enjoys cooking, trying new recipes, as well as going out with friends to experience all the great activities Vancouver has to offer.
