SYLVIS, with partners at Northern Tilth and the University of Washington, developed the Biosolids Emissions Assessment Model (BEAM) to calculate greenhouse gas emissions from Canadian biosolids management.
SYLVIS conducts research into the development and implementation of innovative management of residuals. Research to assess the performance of these opportunities supports the development of policies that facilitate new opportunities for residuals use.
Innovative residuals research includes:
- application of residuals as barrier layers in landfill closure;
- development of residuals-based filter and growing media for enhancement and protection of water resources; and
- use of residuals in the treatment of other residuals.
Our research activities assess and validate innovative residuals management opportunities, increasing our knowledge and providing diversity in residuals use.
